Results of the 2021 Spring schrimage

    Welcome back guys! As you guy's know the past two weeks for Mules football has been huge. We got to play our first outside competition since 2019. Two division II teams from South Dakota in the North Central Conference . Our second scrimmage is the one that I want to focus on the most though. This is because we were able to keep score and go drive for drive against Northern State. 

    It was a time for players who haven't gotten to play in the past to prove themselves against another opponent. Bringing another opponent in allows the coaches to see if certain players can handle the pressure of playing in front of a crowed and also playing when it really matters, and the score will put on the score board. This is different from practicing against your own team which we have been doing for the past year and a half. It was also an opportunity for our new offensive coordinator to coach our offense against another team for the first time. He rose to the occasion as did many of the players. 

    We started off a little bit shaky going down by two touchdowns in the first half. Coming out of the half the coaches and players were anxious to put some points on the board and we came out and scored on the first drive. This allowed us to be within one touchdown. Just as things started to look up, Northern state drove down and scored the following drive putting us down two touchdowns again. This didn't shake our players though as our defense went out and forced a turnover within our own redzone. Being so close to the end zone we were quick to score and make it a one score game again.

    A lot of pressure was on the defense to get another stop. They took the field and did exactly that. Our offense then did their job and scored that drive to make it a tied ballgame. We had a lot more depth then our opponents did which caused them to be a little more fatigued towards the end of the game which helped our defense come upon another stop. This also helped our offense come down and score the following drive. We were able to maintain this one touchdown lead throughout the rest of the scrimmage as came out victorious against our first outside competition since 2019.
