A disappointing loss

Image
Welcome back guys!  I wish that these blog posts weren't beginning to get so reparative. I know you guys look forward to reading something positive whenever you come and check my posts, but today all I have is some more upsetting news. Going into the game we were excited to end our season on a win streak winning last week’s game, hoping to win this game and our last . But this wasn't the case. Going into the first quarter Missouri Western went up 14-0 but we weren't worried because we knew that we would be able to put points on the board . By the end of the first quarter, we were able to score two touchdowns and tie it at 14-14 going into the second quarter. The whole second half was back and forth; our defense got a stop and then their defense stopped us. They scored a touchdown and then we scored a touchdown. By halftime the score was 21-21 and we were feeling confident that it was going to be a good game and we were going to come out with the win. ...

Finally a win!

Welcome back guys! We have some positive news to talk about today. As you guys know, the season hasn't gone the way that we have wanted it to so far. A lot of emotions have built up and we were able to let them all out on Lincoln University last Saturday. We started off the game with a touchdown and then the defense came out and got a turn over! We took advantage of the turn over and scored again going up 14-0. Our defense came out again and got another stop but couldn't capitalize. Our defense kept going and we kept scoring. The defense had an amazing game forcing 5 turn overs almost tying the UCM single game record. By half time the score was 65-14. This is what we expected going into the game and it felt good to see that it actually had flourished the way we wanted. It felt good to show that we are a good team because it is something that we have known. Going into the second half we put our back ups in and stopped taking as many shots. This allowed Lincoln to score a littl...

Another tough loss

Image
Welcome back guys! Sadly, today's blog is not going to be a positive one. I mentioned last week that we had just had a tough loss, loosing to a field goal during the final seconds of the game. This weak was not much different. We were down 14-0 going into half time and it seemed as if it was going to be a blow out knowing that they were receiving the ball when ever the third quarter started. Their fist drive of the second half resulted in a stop for the defense and it was our chance to get on the score board. We drove the field on a 15 play drive and put the ball in the end zone. The score was now 14-7. They begin their next drive and our defense was able to get us another stop and gave our offense another chance to get on the scoreboard and tie the game up. Which we took advantage of on another long drive tying the game up at  14-14 going into the fourth quarter. We were hoping the defense could do something tough and get another stop for the third time in a row and they ans...

Game week eight

Image
Hello, welcome back as we talk about going into game week eight. The season hasn't gone the way we expected as a team or as a coaching staff. We started off the season within our first four games at 0-4, with a tough loss to Kearney-Nebraska , losing by a field goal with only seconds left. After this loss, we won our next two games against North-Eastern Oklahoma and a good team, Emporia State.  Last week we traveled to Missouri Southern State and lost another game by a field goal with two seconds on the clock. We are just seconds away from changing our 2-5 record to being a 4-3 team. The focus going into this week is just fixing the things that we need to fix and finishing late in the game. We know that this game will most likely come down to the wire and we can't afford to lose late in the game again. To make sure of this we are doing a lot of competition drills late in practice just to work on finishing and playing through the last seconds of the game. We know as a team tha...

Game week three

Image
Welcome back Mule football fans! Sorry that things haven't went the way that we have expected. So far, we are zero and two losing to two great opponents in Washburn and Pittsburg State. We expected to come into both games and dominate but things just didn't go our way. There is no one to fault but ourselves and the way that we are executing. With that being said we made it an emphasis this week to work on that and for what better opponent then the NW Bearcats. The Bearcats are coming of a week one win against Fort Hays State . They are also ranked number one in our conference. With all and from the outside looking in, I'm sure no one in the world expects us to win, except for us. We feel that this is the perfect opportunity to show everyone that we are a good football team and earn their respect. We are going into the game expecting to win and, in our minds, have the perfect game plan to win. It all comes down to executing under the pressure. It seems that when everyone is...

Week One vs. Pittsburg State University

Image
Hello! Welcome back to "A look at UCM football". Today we will be talking about how the week one game went against opponent Pittsburg State.         The outcome wasn't exactly what we had hoped for. The final score to the game was 16-35 with Pittsburg State coming out with the win. There is a number of reasons that we didn't come out with the dub and I will start by saying our offense just wasn't as efficient as we needed it to be. We were 16% on third downs and only got in the end zone one time through out the night. Only completing 16% of our third downs caused the defense to have to be on the field a lot more. We don't have a lot of depth right now at a corner position and having to be on the field a lot caused them to be tired.        This resulted in them having four passing touchdowns on us. As a team we have 15 mules that played in the first college football game at Central Missouri. This means that we h...

Results of the 2021 Spring schrimage

Welcome back guys! As you guy's know the past two weeks for Mules football has been huge. We got to play our first outside competition since 2019. Two division II teams from South Dakota in the North Central Conference  . Our second scrimmage is the one that I want to focus on the most though. This is because we were able to keep score and go drive for drive against Northern State.       It was a time for players who haven't gotten to play in the past to prove themselves against another opponent. Bringing another opponent in allows the coaches to see if certain players can handle the pressure of playing in front of a crowed and also playing when it really matters, and the score will put on the score board. This is different from practicing against your own team which we have been doing for the past year and a half. It was also an opportunity for our new offensive coordinator to coach our offense against another team for the first time. He ros...
